IN THE NEWS

Day 2 of the 2019 Victorian Optimist States has been a day of all wind speeds and most directions. The day started with a lighter breeze from the north which enabled our lighter airs specialists to shine. By the end of the day we saw a good solid 25+ knots with support boats bailing and some very wet volunteers returning to shore.

Thank you to all the parents and volunteers today for all your help in getting the fleet safely back to shore and signed off.

Day 1 Report - 2019 Victorian Optimist State Championships.

The first day of the 2019 Victorian Optimist States has kicked off with a great day of racing for all fleets. We had a slight delay to the start until a sea breeze kicked in at 5 knots which then built during the day until a beautiful 14-18 knots breeze settled in.

Tackers Carnival had a great day which started with knot tying practice and balancing games in the water. The Tackers Carnival continues tomorrow and has been a bit hit with families who have younger siblings.

Australian & Open Optimist Nationals

The 2020 Optimist Australian & Open Championship will be held at Safety Beach Sailing Club in January 2020.  We would encourage as many sailors to get involved and have a fantastic family holiday.

The following video captured the spirit of the event from the last time Victoria hosted the event in 2014.  More details to follow.

Learn to Sail - Tackers

Tackers

Tackers is an introductory, fun, games-based sailing program designed for kids aged 7 to 12, delivered at recognised Tackers Clubs. Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience and they don’t have to be a member of a club to participate. All the equipment, including the boats, is provided.

Upon completion of the Tackers program you can become a boat owner and join us as part of the Australian fleet.  There are many good quality second hand boats available on the Optimist Buy / Sell page.

I currently sail in green fleet. I also play soccer, and I like swimming and fishing.

The Optimist has been a fantastic boat for our family. We are the proud owner of two of them and we simply love the community feel. It was a little daunting at our first regatta however it didn't take long and we have made so many friends and we love to travel interstate with the kids.

Thank you for the wonderful opportunity for my child to represent our country in the Optimist. What a fantastic reward for all their hard work!

My daughter has personally grown so much from her time learning to sail in the Optimist. She was only 7yo when she completed her first learn to sail course. The confidence and independence that sailing has given her is a gift that she has taken into other parts of her life. We love the girls in sailing initiatives as its the friendships made that keep her in the sport.
