VIODA is pleased to announce our Term 2 Coaching Program. This year, after the success of the 2015/16 training program the Victorian fleet is joining forces at Albert Park Lake for Sunday afternoon sessions. This enables athletes who also particpate in school representative sports to still continue sailing during the winter months.

Australian & Open Optimist Nationals

The 2014 Optimimist Australian & Open Championship was a fantastic event hosted by Mornington Yacht Club.  The following video captured the spirit of the event and friendships that are built between sailors.

The 2018 Nationals will be held in Queensland and we would encourage as many sailors to get involved and have a fantastic family holiday.

Learn to Sail - Tackers

Tackers

Tackers is an introductory, fun, games-based sailing program designed for kids aged 7 to 12, delivered at recognised Tackers Clubs. Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience and they don’t have to be a member of a club to participate. All the equipment, including the boats, is provided.

Upon completion of the Tackers program you can become a boat owner and join us as part of the Australian fleet.  There are many good quality second hand boats available on the OptiAUS Buy / Sell page.

Meet the SAILOR

VIODA is fortunate to have a fantastic member base from around Australia.  Each month we will introduce you to one of your fellow Opti sailors from around Australia.  We will aim to introduce you to sailors from all skill levels from around Australia.

Hi my Name is Jorja, I am 8 years old and I sail at RGYC.  I like sailing because i get to make lots of friends and I get to see lots of sea creatures. My boats name is called Serendipity. One of my sailing highlights is winning the green fleet at my home club this year at the Opti States and also seeing the dolphins on the course. This year I will be sailing in intermediate fleet. I look forward to making new friends from new places.  I also enjoy swimming, netball and school choir.

Scarlett Zerbe and her family are a delight to have around the boat park.  After completing Tackers at Sandringham Yacht Club they joined the Opti fleet and haven't looked back. Scarlett is currently in Year 6 at Sandringham Primary School and became the proud new owner of Dash only 18 months ago. Since then she has tried to make the most of all the opportunities that open up once you join the Victorian fleet.

The Optimist has been a fantastic boat for our family. We are the proud owner of two of them and we simply love the community feel. It was a little daunting at our first regatta however it didn't take long and we have made so many friends and we love to travel interstate with the kids.

Thank you for the wonderful opportunity for my child to represent our country in the Optimist. What a fantastic reward for all their hard work!

My daughter has personally grown so much from her time learning to sail in the Optimist. She was only 7yo when she completed her first learn to sail course. The confidence and independence that sailing has given her is a gift that she has taken into other parts of her life. We love the girls in sailing initiatives as its the friendships made that keep her in the sport.
