The Australian Optimist Team Racing Championship is nominated and formed by Optimist State Associations or Nations (for countries other than Australia).
The maximum number of teams per state / country is at the discretion of the Organising Authority (AIODA) based on competitors at a state level.
Each team shall comprise of four or five competitors of which any four may sail in each race. The composition of the VIODA teams is at the discretion of VIODA.
The team selection for VIODA is entirely at the discretion of the VIODA committee and based on the individual sailor’s rank calculated by taking the aggregate of each sailor’s top 3 results in open fleet from the following 4 regattas as well as wild cards:
Spring Sail;
NSW Youths;
Sail Sandy; and
George Mac.
The number of teams allowed to enter is completely dependent upon how many teams Victoria is allocated by AIODA which occurs closer to Nationals.
The Top 2 teams will consist of 4 sailors and subsequently lower teams consisting of up to 5 (with a single wild card entry per team at the discretion of the committee) depending on entries and interest.
