Sorrento Sailing and Couta Boat Club is hosting an Opti Team Racing Clinic on Sat 25th and Sun 26th November 2023. This is open to all VIODA members at Open and upper Intermediate level. It will involve coaching of Opti sailors in team racing, and some races that will be factored into selection of Victoria's teams for the team racing day at the Adelaide Nationals in January 2024. The cost is $30 per day, and sailors can come for one or both days.

Some background information on Opti team racing at the Opti Nationals for newer sailors: Team racing will be held at the Adelaide Nationals on Tuesday 9th Jan 2024, the day before the regatta begins. Team racing involves a round robin format followed by finals, with typically about 16 teams from across Australia. Each race has two teams of 4 Optis sailing around a short course, with the winning team from each race being determined by the sum of the scores of the boats in each team. The rules are a bit different from normal regatta rules, and tactics play a big part. Victorian teams have often done very well at Nationals Teams Racing, and one of the Vic teams won in 2023. This Team Racing Clinic will be a chance for sailors who have never done teams racing before to learn what it's all about, and for those with experience to enhance their skills.
