2020 Optimist Victorian Championship @ SSCBC - Day 2

Published Sun 08 Mar 2020

Another great day of racing at Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club – windy and sunny! The Open fleet got out on time with the wind a solid 15+ knots from the east and an opposing tide. With the conditions looking to get stronger the Intermediate Fleet was kept ashore while the situation was assessed.

The Open got 4 races away. A great performance from Matt Goss with bullets in the first three races and Aaron Teo (WA) managing a first in the last race. The Open results at the end of day 2 has Matt Goss leading on 12 points, Aidan Simmons on 21 points and Aaron Teo (WA) on 30 points. Great competition out there with top end of the fleet constantly swapping positions in the top 10 except Matty Goss who was very regular.

The Intermediate got 3 races away. Miles Levenspiel found another two bullets in the first two races. The finish line on the second race was fought very hard and went down to the last few seconds. Miles, Anabelle and James Williamson all rounded the last mark together and took different lines to the finish. Very close and great to watch! The last race saw Thomas Jackson with a first. Thomas’ decision to go far right paid off and saw him round the top mark well ahead of everyone. Thomas was chased hard around the course and managed to hold his lead to the finish. The Intermediate results at the end of day 2 has Miles Levenspiel on 6 points, Anabelle Williamson on 16 points and Thomas Jackson on 19 points.

The wind was not so kind to the mighty Green Pirates who instead had a fun day on the Quest’s thanks to the team at SSCBC.
