Day 2 of the 2019 Victorian Optimist States has been a day of all wind speeds and most directions. The day started with a lighter breeze from the north which enabled our lighter airs specialists to shine.
The first day of the 2019 Victorian Optimist States has kicked off with a great day of racing for all fleets. We had a slight delay to the start until a sea breeze kicked in at 5 knots which then built during the day until a beautiful 14-18 knots breeze settled in.
What a fantastic start to winter sailing at the lake. So many new faces to see and some old Opti kids returning to their roots to share their knowledge.
The 2018 NZ Optimist Nationals were held at Queen Charlotte Yacht Club in Picton, New Zealand over the Easter break. A team of 9 sailors from Victoria travelled to Picton to represent Australia.

During the Easter holidays Westernport Yacht Club (WYC) in Balnarring organised a fantastic 2 day training camp on the beautiful waters of Westernport Bay.
Congratulations to all the competitors in the 2018 Victorian Optimist State Championships! We all enjoyed a wonderful weekend away on the Peninsula at a fantastic and welcoming host club.
Sail Country Report 2017 — Sail Country has been another hugely successful event and little wonder why this event is one of the favourites on the sailing calendar.
The 2017 Kiwi Opti Nationals were held at Napier Sailing Club over the Easter break. The weather just prior to the regatta was a bit challenging to say the least, with Cyclone Cook bringing torrential rain and ferocious wind gusts of up to 70 knots (no that’s not a typo!) as it passed through Napier on the day before the racing began.
Sail Melbourne 2017 might be over but some of the memories and friendships made at this year’s regatta will last forever. This is especially true for the participants of the VIODA Qingdao Optimist Exchange Program, which brought a group of Chinese Optimist sailors down to Australia to participate at this year’s Sail Melbourne International regatta (29 November to 3 December 2017).
